What is a Mousehole?

Historical accuracy is a big thing to us, as it is with most of our customers. Authentic working louvered shutters had a rod, called a tilt-rod, to move the louvers into the open or the closed position. The tilt rod rested in a small opening, called a mousehole. We offer decorative tilt rods and mouseholes as an option to customers desiring added authenticity.

SHOWN: Mouse Hole (Option #1300) Not available on TR1, NE1 or SW1

Why Fixed Louvers?

The fewer moving parts, the more durable your shutters will be. Since today’s shutters are purely decorative, there’s no reason to add a function that will go unused and could result in premature aging of shutters. To make shutters appear functional for historical accuracy, select our tilt rod and mousehole options.
